Dressing for Success

I went to a public relations region conference yesterday and found two things. One, the people that dressed business appropriate easily mingled in the networking circles. Two, the people that were dressed too casual were perceived the same way as not having a business card. Diana Pemberton-Sikes is an image consultant and aurthor of Business Wear Magic, say’s most women, “go their entire careers missing out on promotions and opportunities because no one bothered to tell them they needed to upgrade their business attire.” Her point is as Mark Twain once said, “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence in society.”

Brief Fashion Dictionary

Listen to fashion terms that are commonly and vaguely used. Save yourself the embarrasment of misunderstanding. How would anything embarrasing ever happen? Listen to a lingerie mishap.

Classic fashion pieces

There are some wardrobe essentials that are in every womens closet. There are differences in what constitutes the top ten. After searching and reading what others consider the top ten classic pieces, there were definitely at least five that were on almost every list. They are: the trench coat, the little black dress, black pumps, the wrap dress, and a white button down shirt. Another piece that I would certainly add is a pair of flattering jeans that fit. Having essentials in your wardrobe make dressing up so much easier. By far the number one classic item is being comfortable in what you wear.

Mix Spring into your wardrobe

You don’t have to spend a lot to have the season’s trends and style. Try buying pieces that work with items you already own. The video gives examples of pairing shoes or a purse to an outfit that’s classic and neutral. This gives your outfit the perfect touch with these Spring collections. Pick your favorite color to brighten your day and make going out more fun.

LA city of fashionistas

“In terms of taste, L.A. is between Paris and Tokyo. For me, those are the three references. New York is trapped in this conservative shell now, which is annoying because it was never like that before.”

Southern California has fashion hot spots for consumers. LA just had it’s fall fashion week two weeks ago.
And last year, was the strart of fashion style week for Orange County that included Lauren Conrad.

Fashion Do’s and Don’ts

I watched the top 25 Do’s and Don’ts of fashion on The Style Network
on Tuesday night. Some of the most common don’ts I’ve seen especially on college campuses
were:

 1. over-wearing your uggs – they are so easy to throw on with whatever, but they shouldn’t be worn with evrything.
2. Wearing your PJ’s outside the house.
3. Wearing clothes that don’t fit. Either get a bigger size, or get your clothes tailored if they are too big.
4. Showing your thong. It is NOT SEXY.
5. Over-accessorizing. One big piece of jewelry goes a long way.

Fashion Do’s
1. Dressing age appropriate.
2. Wearing Classic pieces.
3. Wearing white after Labor day.
4. Adding a bright piece of color to your outfit.

Feminine Trends continue

Did anyone see these trends start last year?
I remember searching through magazines for a swimsuit last summer and I saw many of the celebrities wearing ruffled swim suits and other feminine styles.
I also saw women wearing these full length dresses that are definitely very feminine, but I wasn’t too sure if I liked them enough to wear them. Although my height may not be complimentary to them. Should I add this style in my closet for this spring and summer?
